Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i held a strategic meeting with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya on Wednesday, December 17, reinforcing their partnership within the United Opposition.
In a subsequent press statement after the talks, Matiang’i indicated that the two leaders had reaffirmed their friendship and their good working relations, citing their joint quest for accountable leadership in Kenya.
“We reaffirmed our friendship and strong working relationship within the United Opposition as we continue to pursue our vision to restore good leadership and fix the problems facing our country,” Matiang’i stated.
The former Interior Cabinet Secretary said other issues that were under consideration included those facing the Kenya Kwanza administration and the need for governance and accountability.
“We also reflected on the challenges facing the Kenya Kwanza regime and emphasized the need for accountable leadership and effective management of our country,” he added.
Matiang’i stressed the importance of a united opposition in addressing Kenya’s economic difficulties.
“We further reiterated the need to work together as Opposition leaders to save our country from the economic mess it currently faces,” he said.
The meeting drew other key figures, including United Opposition head of secretariat Mukhisa Kituyi, Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka, Trans Nzoia MCAs, and county officials, underlining the collaborative nature of the discussions.
This engagement follows Matiang’i’s recent meetings with other opposition leaders, including PLP party leader Martha Karua, PNU leader Peter Munya, UPIA leader Ukur Yattani, and Lenny Kuvuti, where they explored strategies to strengthen the opposition and restore good governance.
“Our deliberations focused on the modalities of strengthening the Opposition in line with our steadfast mission to restore good leadership in our country,” Matiang’i said after those talks.
As he positions himself for the 2027 presidential race, Matiang’i has been actively hosting delegations at his Nyansiongo home in Nyamira County, further consolidating his political base and forging alliances across opposition ranks.
