Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria has pledged to support Morris Ogeta, a longtime aide and former bodyguard to the late opposition leader Raila Odinga, in setting up a professional VIP protection and training company.
Speaking at Ogeta’s home in Uyoma, Siaya County, Kuria said the initiative aims to help Ogeta transition into entrepreneurship while creating a platform for him to pass on his extensive security experience to others.
Kuria described Ogeta as a highly skilled and disciplined professional whose expertise should be institutionalised through a formal business, rather than remaining limited to individual assignments.
“I think Morris should impact other people. That is what Baba would have wanted,” Kuria said.
“If Baba would come back to find Morris serving as bodyguard to a small person like Moses Kuria, Baba would be upset. Nobody that I know deserves Morris Ogeta, not one person.”
Kuria argued that returning Ogeta to personal bodyguard roles would undermine the depth of his training and experience, insisting that his skills should instead benefit a wider group through structured VIP protection and training services.
He explained that the idea to establish a VIP security and training firm emerged from mutual discussions, not external pressure.
“I didn’t tell him what to do, I asked him what he wants to do and he told me,” Kuria said.
The former Cabinet secretary revealed that friends and associates are ready to rally behind Ogeta to help set up the company, including supporting training programmes and building operational capacity.
He framed the move as a collective effort to professionalise VIP protection in Kenya while opening opportunities for others to benefit from Ogeta’s expertise.
Kuria also reflected on Ogeta’s years working closely with Raila Odinga, describing him as far more than a security aide.
“He is loving and loyal. He was everything,” Kuria said. “Has Baba taken medicine? has he done this? He was also Baba’s physiotherapist. His confidant, Personal Assistant, he was many things.”
Kuria said such experience uniquely positions Ogeta to mentor young professionals and help raise standards within the VIP protection and security training sector.
He added that supporting Ogeta’s next chapter aligns with what he believes Raila would have wanted for a trusted aide whose contribution went far beyond conventional security duties.
